マーティン・ルーサー・キング・ジュニアは、あらゆる人々の人権が尊重されることを夢に描いていました。それから40年が経った今、私たちは同じ夢を抱きながら、「第3回青森インターナショナルLGBTフィルムフェスティバル」を開催致します。今年は、"Think Globally, Act Locally"をモットーに国内外から9本の優れた作品を選びました。
『デンジャラス・リビング』は、先進国以外の地域におけるLGBTの人たちが基本的人権を求めるがゆえに直面する激しい抑圧が描かれたドキュメンタリーです。
『ハーヴェイ・ミルク』は、ゲイであることをオープンにして初めてサンフランシスコ市政執行委員に当選したハーヴェイ・ミルクの輝かしいキャリアと、暗殺に至るまでの生涯が描かれたドキュメンタリーです。
『日本短編作品集』では、アニメーション、ドラマ、ドキュメンタリーなど様々な手法で多様な性が表現されています。
作品のひとつひとつが、人々のユーモア、ドラマ、悲しみについて語りかけます。そして、世界中のLGBTコミュニティの歴史、活動、日々の暮らしについても同様に語りかけます。すべての人たちが人間としての尊厳、安心できる場所、自由を求めています。その願いを叶えるべく、ニューヨークに本部を置くアメリカ最大の国際人権擁護団体 ヒューマン・ライツ・ウォッチ が東京にオフィスを設立することが決まりました。日本は世界の場で、より大きな役割を果たしていくことになるでしょう。
この映画祭に関心を寄せ、変わらぬご支援を下さる多くの方々に心から感謝致します。マーティン・ルーサー・キング・ジュニアはこう言いました。
「本当の平和は、単に緊張がないというだけではありません。正義が存在しているということです。」

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream for human rights that affect all people. 40 years later, the Third Aomori International LGBT Film Festival strives to continue that dream. This year, we are proud to present nine excellent films and documentaries from Japan and abroad. Drawing on the dictum, "Think Globally, Act Locally" they include:
- "Dangerous Living" which chronicles the struggle of LGBT people for basic human rights in the face of severe oppression in the developing world;
- "The Times of Harvey Milk" - a documentary on the successful career and assassination of San Francisco's first elected openly gay supervisor;
- Short films from Japan that speak to the full range of human emotions and sexual expressions ... and more.
The films and documentaries speak to the humor, drama, and tragedies of ordinary people as well as the history, actions, and lives of the world's LGBT community ... all in search of dignity, security, and liberty in their daily lives. To this end, we are so proud to announce that the Human Rights Watch, the largest international human rights organization based in New York City, will be establishing its branch office in Tokyo this year. Japan surely has an important role to play in promoting human rights across the globe.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your continuing interests and support to the Aomori International LGBT Film Festival. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
"True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice."
